Plans submitted for Seaham's first direct rail connection to London
Seaham could be set for its first and only direct rail link to London if new plans are approved.
Rail operator Grand Central has applied to the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) to begin consultations to introduce an expansion of services travelling along its existing routes. This includes the introduction of four daily calls at Seaham on the company's North East services, which currently run from Sunderland to King's Cross.
Should the plans be approved, services offering the direct connection between Seaham and London are targeted for launch in May 2025. The company is also proposing changes to provide additional seats for its services to York and West Yorkshire.
