Yahoo News Plans to turn forgotten Neath building into 36 homes
Plans to turn a former Neath care home into affordable housing have been submitted to Neath Port Talbot Council. If given the go-ahead it could see the demolition of Caewern House, based in Neath Abbey on Dwr-y-Felin Road, for the creation of 36 affordable apartments in its place.
The site was reportedly used as a care home up until it closed in 2015 with the property left vacant and falling into ruin in the years since after "numerous instances of vandalism". The Neath property consists of a "three-storey, masonry-built building" believed to have been from the 19th century as well as an associated access track from Dwr-Y-Felin Road, hard standing, and a number of trees.
The plans, which have been put forward by developers at Linc Cymru could now see the creation of 36 residential apartments at the site, split across five three-storey blocks containing six apartments each.

If given the green light it would also feature parking, footpaths, drainage, open space, landscaping, and associated works including electric vehicle charging points, and bin/cycle storage.
A report within the plans reads: "The design has been developed to integrate its scale with that of the local context and therefore consists of three-storey apartment buildings containing six apartments each in keeping with local characteristics.
"Careful attention has been paid to ensure that the proposals do not dominate those surrounding the site. The design proposals furthermore provide safe and secure private garden areas for the residents of the proposed development in addition to reinforcing existing landscape assets by placing them at the centre of the public realm proposals."
