Yahoo News Plans for unique classroom as part of SEND school under construction
Plans have been lodged to provide a unique classroom pod as part of an under-construction new free school supporting young people with additional needs.
Work is underway on the school on land off Brenda Road, to the south of Golden Flatts Primary School, after proposals were approved by Hartlepool Borough Council planning committee.
It is to be for children and young people with social and emotional mental health needs.
A further application has now been submitted by the Department For Education to provide a “GenZero” pod at the site for additional practical classroom space for environmental studies and outdoor learning.

It adds it will help children “develop the wider caring side of their curriculum”.
A planning statement says the development would form part of a national research project and is based on a construction approach that will form a ‘kit of parts’ to build ultra-low carbon sustainable schools.
Previous plans stated the school will have around 36 staff and accommodate pupils aged 8-18, with an expected initial intake of around 50 students, eventually rising to 64.
