West Lothian could get 47 new homes at the site of a former school.

New plans submitted to West Lothian Council have proposed a new estate in Livingston, just off Ladywell East Road. The Brownfield site has been left derelict since Cedarbank School relocated in 2022 and turned into an 'eyesore' for locals.

If the plans from Springfield Partnerships are granted, the town would see two blocks of modern flats built with green space, a seating area, parking with the provision for EV charging and a large bike store.

The four-storey block would offer apartments with an open planned kitchen/living area, with a family bathroom and two bedrooms.

The old school building that is currently there, would be demolished to make way for the new builds, and residents would only be a 20 minutes walk from local amenities such as shops and schools.

The much needed affordable homes include innovative heating systems to help keep running costs low for residents and the development encourages active travel with strong walking, jogging and cycle links to nearby shops and amenities within the wider Ladybank area in line with the Scottish Government 20 minute neighbourhoods’ initiative.

Springfield Partnerships Managing Director, Tom Leggeat, said: “Scotland is crying out for more homes, and we are pleased to submit our plans for 47 new, affordable, high quality and energy efficient homes that will revitalise this derelict site within a residential area of Livingston.

“These affordable apartments would provide accessible living to local people who need it the most and in an area where all the local infrastructure needed to support them already exists. We are looking forward to receiving feedback from the Council in the coming months.”
