Plymouth Argyle get Carabao Cup home tie against Cheltenham Town

Plymouth Argyle have been drawn at home to League Two side Cheltenham Town in the Carabao Cup first round.

It will be the Pilgrims' first match at Home Park under new head coach Wayne Rooney and will be played on the week commencing August 12.

As Argyle are going to open their 2024/25 Championship campaign away to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, August 11, the Carabao Cup tie against Cheltenham could be played on Wednesday, August 14, rather than the Tuesday night.

The two clubs are set to meet each other before then, however. Argyle are playing their first domestic pre-season game against the Robins at Whaddon Road on Saturday, July 20, with a 3pm kick-off.

The Gloucestershire club were relegated from League One last season after finishing in 21st position, two points from safety. Manager Darrell Clarke then left to take charge of Barnsley and Michael Flynn was brought in as his replacement.

The last time Cheltenham played at Home Park was in February 2023 for a Papa Johns Trophy semi-final, which Argyle won 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.
