Plymouth Argyle fans issue welcome back message to Darko Gyabi

The return to Plymouth Argyle of midfielder Darko Gyabi for a second loan spell from Leeds United has largely been welcomed by the Green Army.

The 20-year-old England youth international joined the Pilgrims in January under former head coach Ian Foster but returned to Leeds in March after he suffered a groin injury which required surgery. Now Gyabi is back at Home Park, this time with Wayne Rooney as the Pilgrims' boss, and as one Argyle fan Mike Garside has suggested: "He has unfinished business."

Garside was among those who replied to a social media post when Plymouth Live's Chris Errington asked Argyle fans on X (formerly Twitter) for their thoughts on the re-signing of Gyabi.

He wrote: "Deffo a positive in my book! The lad is a 100%er and leaves nothing out there. I love his drive and aggression on the ball and apart from anything else he has unfinished business here. He was really settling in when he got his injury and will improve under WR. Good luck Darko!"

Dave Searle commented: "He showed briefly what he could do in what was a sporadic spell on loan interrupted by not being able to play against Leeds. He looked comfortable on the ball. Ideally we need to get a creative midfielder in the mode of (Finn) Azaz to complement him."

Jonathan Cowell said: "Good to get him back - thought he showed the most potential from the January loans, a little bit different to what we have already."

However, Jack Leslie admitted to mixed feelings about the return of Gyabi. "Part of me wants nothing to do with the players who came in last season with how it ended," he said. " And unfortunately that goes for a large chunk of our current players. He had 1 or 2 decent games but nothing spectacular. But we must think there’s more to give."

Below are some of the other replies about Gyabi rejoining Argyle for the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

Tony Bullock-Formosa: Love it, welcome back. Showed some great feet last time, hoping for more.

Pete Robinson: As long as Darko is played to his strengths and stays fit, he's a decent signing.

Ed Blackburn: If Rooney is going 4-3-3 we will need an athletic midfield. We know Darko can play, he’d fit well into a 6 as the pivot and even better as an 8.

The Fat Janner: Can only get better so not a bad signing.

Matt Grahame: Impressed before injury

Philip Carter: I think he has potential, still young and a year older so a good loan I feel.

Josh Coles: Proper tidy player. Now let’s get Ennis back, we need a marksman up with Hardie!

Tim Cotton: I think it’s great. Showed promise and hopefully will thrive when the handbrake is off the team.

Ken Adams: Meh

Andy Ballantyne: Happy days loving this.
