Plymouth Argyle forward Mustapha Bundu in action for Sierra Leone

Plymouth Argyle attacker Mustapha Bundu played as a second half substitute in Sierra Leone's latest 2026 World Cup qualifier, a come-from-behind 2-2 draw with Burkina Faso last night.

The 27-year-old came off the bench in the 69th minute of the match, which was an away game for the Leone Stars and was played on neutral territory in Bamako, Mali. Bundu replaced Cambridge United's Sullay Kaikai and his side went on to earn a draw after Forest Green Rovers' striker Amadou Bakayoko grabbed a late equaliser.

It was a result which leaves Sierra Leone in fourth position out of the six teams in Group A of the qualification tournament, five points behind leaders Egypt, with a record of one win, two draws and one defeat from four games. Their next 2026 World Cup qualifiers are not until March 2025 when they are at home to Guinea-Bissau and away to Egypt.

Bundu had made his 15th appearance for his country when Sierra Leone beat Djibouti 2-1 in a 'home' match played on neutral territory in Morocco last Wednesday. He played for the first 79 minutes before making way for substitute Abu Dumbuya.

Meanwhile, Argyle goalkeeper Conor Hazard will be part of Northern Ireland's squad for a friendly international against Andorra in Murcia, Spain, tonight.

Hazard was an unused substitute when Bailey Peacock-Farrell was between the posts for Northern Ireland as they lost 5-1 to Spain in Mallorca on Saturday. Barcelona midfielder Pedri netted twice and the trio of Alvaro Morata, Fabian Ruiz and Mikel Oyarzabal were all on target.

Argyle defender Brendan Galloway was selected for the Zimbabwe squad for their latest two 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but was not included in either the starting line-up or among the substitutes for the 2-0 defeat by Lesotho on Friday. It is not clear the reason for that.

Zimbabwe, who are bottom of Group C in African qualification with two points from three games, take on South Africa at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein today.
