Plymouth Argyle request for extra Millwall tickets rejected

Plymouth Argyle have confirmed they have had a request for more tickets for their vital Championship match against Millwall at The Den on Saturday rejected by the south London club.

The Pilgrims announced on social media on Friday morning they had sold out of their allocation of 2,000 tickets in the North Stand, which has a capacity of 4,000 over two tiers.

Then last night, Argyle stated: "After communication with Millwall, we can confirm our request for further tickets for this fixture has been declined. We'll still have 2,000 of the Green Army in the capital this weekend."

Argyle are locked in a relegation battle going into their penultimate match of the season at The Den so, understandably, there has been a lot of interest in attending it from their supporters.

Millwall, who secured their Championship safety with a 1-0 win away to Sunderland last Saturday, will be playing their final home game of the campaign against the Pilgrims. They have won four of their last five matches at The Den, the exception being a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

The last time Argyle played a league game away to Millwall was in April 2006 and it ended in a 1-1 Championship draw after an early goal from the visitors' Vincent Pericard was cancelled out by a first half equaliser from Marvin Williams.

The Pilgrims did play at The Den in a League Cup tie in August 2018 and twice took the lead through Jamie Ness and Freddie Ladapo before losing 3-2.

Argyle have averaged more than 1,800 fans per away game in the Championship this season, which is hugely impressive given the long distances the Green Army have had to travel.

There has been 2,000-plus eight times, most recently 2,587 for the visit to Stoke City last Saturday, and just two occasions when there were less than 1,000 away Argyle fans. They were for the fixtures at Middlesbrough (836) and Ipswich Town (828).
