Voters in Plymouth go to the polls in the May local elections for Plymouth City Council. Here are the candidates for the Plymstock Radford ward - and why they say you should vote for them.

PLYMSTOCK RADFORD

MATHEW BLIGH - TUSC

I'm Mat Bligh and I'm standing for TUSC this May to ensure the voters of Plymstock Radford ward have an alternative to the continued poverty and austerity offered up from the tag team of the Conservatives and Labour.

I've served 5 years in the army, helping Afghan refugees whilst on tour before being retired on medical grounds. I would now like to serve the people of Plymouth by representing our residents and communities on the local council.

Council tax keeps going up and services are in perpetual decline. This year alone has seen millions more cut from adult social care and children's services. Why aren't councillors defending services and demanding that central government cough up the local authorities spending needed?

TUSC will not allow any more to be stripped out of the council and will defend our public services to the hilt. Vote for TUSC on May 2nd and help us to build the socialist alternative we all need.

SARA JENNETT - LIBERAL DEMOCRATS

I worked for many years in education, firstly in secondary schools as a teacher and then in higher education. Until recently I was working part-time as a complementary therapist. I am now retired, but still active and engaged in the local community of Plymstock, where I live.

My concerns include:

• Providing open green spaces for children to play and adults to relax in fresh air.

• Improving facilities for young people outside school time, e.g. youth clubs, sports activities.

• Ensuring local consultation in planning consents.

• Improving waste collection and promoting anti-litter campaigns, in public spaces and in schools.

GLENN LINDSAY - REFORM UK

Local lad born at Fleet house, worked as a fisherman, shellfish exporter, charter boat owner, and now carer for disabled child, and looking after my old folks. Married with 3 sons, 9 grandchildren. Most importantly I have common sense.

BRUCE ROBINSON - GREEN PARTY

I have lived in Plymstock for the past 35 years. I served in the Royal Navy for 15 years as a Meteorology and Oceanography Officer. In 2005, I joined Coombe Dean School as a Chemistry teacher and went on to become Head of Chemistry at Ivybridge Community College in 2007 and whole College STEM Coordinator at UTC Plymouth in 2015 before retiring from frontline teaching in 2017. I have run my own business, Wonder Workshops, delivering challenging Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths workshops to enthuse and inform children across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall. Although formally retired, I work part time for STEM Learning as an ENTHUSE Coach for Secondary and Primary schools in Plymouth and Kingsteignton. I am a keen photographer, musician and bodyboarder. I enjoy walking on Dartmoor and I was a Ten Tors Commander for three years and a scrutineer. I am married with two daughters.

As a member of the Plymstock Swimming Pool Association, I was pleased to see the considerable effort bring about the integration of a swimming pool for Plymstock and Sherford residents into the Sports Centre at Sherford. Through this project, I have learnt that success doesn’t always come overnight, and dogged determination is often required to get a community what it wants and needs. If elected, I hope to bring that experience and determination to serve the residents of Plymstock Radford.

“My career has taken me across the globe but I feel lucky to be able to call Plymouth my home,” said Daniel. “Public service is my passion. This is rooted in the values I was taught growing up in a service family.
