Polar Bear Cub Emerges for First Time at Munich's Hellabrunn Zoo

A 14-week-old female polar bear cub at Munich’s Hellabrunn zoo ventured outside for the first time on the morning of February 24.

In this video, the cub and its mother, Giovanna, are seen cautiously emerging from a mothering den and exploring their tundra enclosure.

After spending close to three months in the den, Giovanna had used up her fat reserves, and was fed beef again in the last few days, the zoo said. Zoo officials said the female cub developed well. Her emergence came three days before International Polar Bear Day on February 27. A name-giving ceremony was scheduled for Thursday, 23 March. Credit: Hellabrunn – Munich Zoo via Storyful
