Police dealt with a number of parking issues during Bolton Wanderers football match on May 7.

The Whites, despite losing 2-3 to Barnsley last night, May 7, made it through to Wembley, beating the South Yorkshire side 5-4 on aggregate.

But whilst people were out celebrating, officers from Greater Manchester Police had to deal with some ‘irresponsible’ and ‘hazardous’ parking on residential streets.

This included blocking pavements and parking on junctions.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Our neighbouring football club BWFC celebrated securing a place in the playoffs at Wembley.

"Whilst it was great to see so many visitors to the area to enjoy the game, we had to deal with some irresponsible and hazardous parking on residential streets.

"Unfortunately a small number of traffic offence reports were issued last night for issues such as blocking pavements and parking on junctions."

This comes just a couple of months after motorists were urged to park responsibly, especially on match days, after tickets were issued for poor parking.

He said: “Chaired by a local councillor, we hold regular meetings with local residents, police and officers of Bolton Council to discuss these matters and take a multidisciplinary approach across all parties.

“We encourage all fans to use the wide range of matchday car parks on offer, to park safely at all times and to avoid parking in residential areas where it could cause obstruction and disruption.”
