Police chasing third suspect after Leeds United victim left with slashed chin and neck

Two men have been arrested after a Leeds United fan’s chin and neck were slashed following Sunday’s draw with Norwich City. Norfolk Police is trying to locate a third suspect and has appealed to the public to come forward with any further information about the incident.

The victim, a man in his 60s, suffered the injuries outside Carrow Road as fans departed the stadium after full-time. He told police he had been punched, struck in the face with a can and also been sliced by a sharp object of some description.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene and then allowed to head home without any need for hospital treatment. A man in his late teens has been arrested on suspicion of assault grievous bodily harm, while a second man in his 50s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

A Norfolk Police statement said: “Two men have been arrested following an incident in Norwich this afternoon. The incident happened shortly after 2pm today, when a man aged in his 60s reported being punched outside Norwich City’s stadium in Carrow Road.

“An object is also believed to have been thrown at the victim who suffered a cut to his chin. The victim was seen by paramedics at the scene and did not require further medical treatment.

“A man aged in his late teens was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault GBH and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. A man aged in 50s was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

“Both men remain in custody. Officers believe another man was also involved in this afternoon’s incident and enquiries are ongoing to locate him.

“An investigation has been launched to establish the full circumstances of exactly what happened. Officers are keen to speak to any witnesses or anybody in the area at the time with any information or phone footage of the incident.”

Leeds United have also released a statement this evening and confirmed they have been in contact with the supporter. The club will also work closely with the police before taking appropriate action.

A spokesman said: “Leeds United can confirm a supporter received medical treatment and was discharged following an incident that occurred outside Carrow Road following Sunday's Championship play-off fixture. The supporter was seen by paramedics at the scene and the club have also been in contact with the supporter.

“Two individuals were arrested by Norfolk Police. The club will now work closely with the police to fully investigate the incident, understand the facts and take appropriate action.”
