A police dog has tracked a suspected drink-driver to a home in Lincolnshire after they allegedly left the scene of a car crash.

Police were called to Park Lane, in Ewerby, Lincolnshire, on Wednesday to report a single-vehicle crash, but when they arrived, the driver had already left.

Police dog Orbit then flew into action and tracked down the alleged driver at a home on Anwick Road.

Lincolnshire police confirmed a woman, 45, from Sleaford, had been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

The Lincolnshire Police Dog Section tweeted: “Overnight, PD Orbit has attended the scene of a traffic collision where the occupants have left the location.

“Orbit has tracked from the scene to the front door of an address.

“Once inside the registered keeper of the vehicle was located and arrested on suspicion of drink driving.”

Last year, police dogs helped find a wanted man hiding under a giant teddy bear after chasing him into a house.

The suspect lost a "game of hide and seek" when the animals helped sniff him out at the property in Chesterfield.

The suspect was wanted over breaching the conditions of being fitted with an electronic tag.

PC Martyn Cragg, a police dog instructor at Lincolnshire Police Dog School, said: “Police dogs serve their communities in Lincolnshire all their lives and are often working in dangerous situations on the frontline.

“They go above and beyond to provide an outstanding service to the public and deserve to be looked after when they leave the service too.”

Orbit features in a new charity calendar alongside other Lincolnshire police dogs.

Each month, the calendar features a specialist police dog photographed in the beautiful rural landscapes of Lincolnshire.

All proceeds will be donated to the Thin Blue Paw Foundation, a national charity that supports serving and retired police dogs across the UK.

A Thin Blue Paw Foundation spokesperson said: “We have more than 300 retired dogs registered with us and provide financial support to those who need ongoing medication, therapy and veterinary treatment.”
