Police focus search for 85-year-old George Fewtrell on area near cricket club

Police looking for an 85-year-old man who has been missing for more than a week are focusing their search near a North Wales cricket club. George Fewtrell was last seen more than a week ago, after he walked over 25 miles from his home in Neston, Cheshire, to Holywell in Flintshire.

The last confirmed CCTV sighting of him is at 2.11am on Wednesday, June 26, walking along the pavement opposite the Texaco fuel station on Holway Road, Holywell. He was walking in the direction of Lloc and Whitford.

Police have now confirmed that Mr Fewtrell was last seen by an eyewitness at around 3.20am on Wednesday, June 26 near the cricket club in Carmel, Flintshire. Police said "specially trained officers" are focusing their "extensive search operation" on that area today.

Yesterday, police called for a "community effort" in the bid to find Mr Fewtrell, with people living in and around Holywell asked to check CCTV cameras. And today, Detective Inspector Chris Owen is making a further appeal for the public to assist.

He said: "Whilst my dedicated team continue to follow the trail of our last known sightings of George, assistance from residents in proactively checking gardens, sheds and outbuildings will greatly assist us today. Your support will allow our specialist search teams to continue to focus on roads and wider open areas.

"We continue to liaise with and support George’s family during this difficult time.” Mr Fewtrell is described as white, around 5'7" tall, of medium build, with balding/short grey hair.

A CCTV image released of him shows him in the clothes they believe he is wearing including a blue Harbour coat, an Easy red striped jumper from Matalan, size 7 black fabric Tampa men’s trainers and black casual trousers. Anyone with information is asked to contact police via their website, or by calling 101, using itrace reference number 47758.
