An “arrogant” fly-tipper who dumped 40 tonnes of rubbish near a school is being hunted by authorities in east London.

Huge piles of waste appeared in the road near Goresbrook School in Dagenham on two separate mornings over the last week.

Both fly-tips were cleared away within 24 hours, costing Barking and Dagenham Council a total of £8,262.

Now the council’s enforcement officers have released CCTV images of a truck they believe is connected to the rubbish dumping.

It can be seen dumping its load to the side before pulling off. CCTV images also showed a Ford Focus at the scene of the fly-tip.

Jonathon Toy, Operational Director of Enforcement Services, said: “This was one of the worst incidents of fly tipping to hit the borough.

“Not only were these people behind this arrogant enough to think they could dump tonnes of rubbish in our borough - they did it near a school which is outrageous.

“We want to hear from anyone who has information about these vehicles or people involved so we can take swift enforcement action.”

The first incident took place at about 2am on Sunday 21 May and the second occurred in the early hours of Wednesday 24 May. The CCTV images relate to the May 21 incident.
