'Police incident' in Briggate shuts down Leeds city centre street

A Leeds city centre street has been shut in both directions following a 'police incident' this morning.

West Yorkshire Police have shut Duncan Street in both directions. Information at this stage is scarce but according to our traffic management system, the incident unfolded at 7.09am.

In a brief statement, Inrix states: "Duncan Street in both directions closed, heavy traffic due to police incident from Briggate to Cloth Hall Street."

It comes as hundreds of people have descended on the city centre for the annual Leeds 10k race this morning. It is not thought this will affect the route.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed the force was dealing with an incident but has not disclosed any further information at this stage. More to follow.
