Police issue Nottingham bomb squad evacuation update as people told 'stay away'


Police have issued a fresh update on a "suspicious incident" in Nottingham that has led to people being evacuated from their homes. A huge cordon is in place in the Lenton area and bomb-disposal experts have been seen working within a cordon around Allington Avenue.

Nottinghamshire Police said emergency services had been responding to the incident since around 2pm today (Friday, June 28). The force also confirmed that residents have been evacuated from their homes as a precaution.

Officers have now said cordons remain in place in Allington Avenue, Lenton, and surrounding areas while they continue to investigate the incident. The force added: "The site of this package has been established and Explosive Ordinance Disposal engineers are at the scene.

"People are advised to stay away from the area until further notice, while residents from Allington Avenue and the surrounding areas have been evacuated as a precaution. A cordon is in place and roads are closed in Lenton on Derby Road, between the junctions of Welby Avenue and Harrington Drive."

Residents have spoken of their fears with some families split from relatives within the cordon and others unable to access their properties. A robot has been seen being set up within the cordon.
