A woman has been found murdered inside her home.

The victim, who has been locally named as Fatima, was attacked at her property in Leicester on Tuesday morning.

Police confirmed they had launched a murder investigation after attending the house in Bartholomew Street shortly after 9am.

No arrests have been made.

A friend of the dead woman, who was described as being an Islam convert of Tamil Sri Lankan origin, told Leicestershire Live: “She had the two boys from a previous relationship and the girl from her present relationship.

“She was a Tamil who converted to Islam.

"I couldn’t believe it when I heard she was dead. She was an amazing mum who cared for her children and fed them well.”

A distraught older woman was later seen being helped into a police car at the scene.
