POLICE has released the name of a woman who died following a fatal collision on the Downs Road near Brading on June 8.

The passenger of a silver Hyundai i40 taxi, 77-year-old Miranda Mellor from Newport, died at the scene, after the vehicle collided with a silver Land Rover Defender, which was towing a trailer.

Police were called to the accident at 11.20am that day.

The pensioner's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
 
The driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old man from Newport, suffered serious injuries and is being treated in hospital.
 
"We are continuing to investigate this collision and, would like to speak to any witnesses or people with relevant dashcam footage, who have not already come forward," a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said.
