Police Officer Frees Cub From Dumpster as Anxious Momma Bear Looks On

A sergeant with the Truckee Police Department helped to reunite a bear cub and its mother on November 16 after the cub became trapped in a dumpster.

Police said the incident began when the bears were rummaging through an unlocked dumpster and the lid fell, trapping the cub inside.

Sergeant Mon Pere and Officer Donahue responded to the scene and recorded this footage of the sergeant climbing onto a dumpster and opening the lid, allowing the cub to scramble out and run to its mother, who was looking on.

Police appealed to the public to lock their garbage containers to avoid similar incidents. Credit: Truckee Police Department via Storyful
