Police officer injured after crash with Mercedes on way to 999 call

A police officer was injured following a crash.

Merseyside Police received a call at around 8.30am today, Thursday, April 25 to reports of a crash on St James Street in the Baltic Triangle. The crash involved a police van which was responding to an emergency incident and a black Mercedes E-class car.

Both drivers sustained a slight injury. Photos of the scene showed heavy damage to both vehicles. The police van also appeared to have crashed into a lamppost on Cornwallis Street.

A small cordon was in place on St James Street as officers waited for recovery. The road has since reopened and the scene has cleared.

Police said an investigation into the crash was carried out, and officers are appealing for anyone who saw the crash, or who has dashcam footage, to contact police as soon as possible. Anyone who witnessed the crash or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact police via @MerPolCC on Twitter (X) or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook, with log 219 of 25 April.
