Police Officer Wows City Centre Crowds With Spontaneous Pots And Pans Drumming Show

This cop really went on the beat - when he showed off his sensational drumming skills in a city centre.

PC Jim Perks, 24, was caught on camera wowing passersby on Birmingham’s New Street after he used the selection of pots and pans as a makeshift drum kit on Saturday.

The West Midlands Police constable had spotted a street performer playing the items and decided to have a go himself.

Footage of his own unique drum solo using the kitchen utensils has since attracted over 4.5 million views after it was uploaded to social media over the weekend.

Birmingham City Centre policing team shared the video from their @brumcitypolice Twitter account.

They said: “Pc Perks engaging with the @visit_bham city centre community while showing his talent! @WMPolice @BWCPartnerships.

"PC Jim Perks is new member of the @brumcitypolice team. His boss @InspGMorris is proud to have him on the team."

They later posted another video adding: "How about this for a bit of community spirit - PC Perks (@brumpolice) playing the pots and pans on New Street earlier."

On Sunday evening, they wrote: "PC Perks now almost 4 million views and over 100000 likes from multiple sources! Well done. Shows the diverse nature of officers! #talented.”

Inspector Gareth Morris, from West Midlands Police, said: "PC Perks is a new recruit & has a great attitude. This type of engagement helps young kids etc see us as approachable."

Web users were quick to praise Pc Perks, who has been playing the drums for 14 years, but others left criticism and accused the officer of not doing "proper police work”.

David Fenton said: “Excellent drumming love the fact that people have time to criticise people for what can be described as ark act of random kindness to make a street full of people laugh and take a positive experience away from a trip to the city centre of Birmingham well done that man."

Joseph R Brotherson said: "It’s good…It stops people thinking they’re mindless robots that don’t have feelings."

And Steve Hogg wrote: "We need more policemen like this. Fantastic.”

Meanwhile, Matthew Baker said “Busy as usual West Midlands police farce” while Sean Palmer added: “This is what we pay taxes for.”
