Police probe launched after 'hundreds' of kids added to 'horrific' WhatsApp group chats
Ayrshire parents are on alert after kids were added to 'horrific' WhatsApp group chats.
A police investigation is underway after one parent claimed 'hundreds' of children were apparently added to a chat with 'indecent' images.
East Ayrshire Council has warned parents today in a message urging them to be aware of their child's mobile phone content and usage.
Police say that enquiries into the matter are currently ongoing after being reported this afternoon.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "An investigation is under way after we received a report relating to inappropriate communications on an online platform. The matter was reported on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 and enquiries are ongoing."
An East Ayrshire Council spokesperson added: "East Ayrshire Council can confirm that reports have been received of children and young people being added to group chats on an online platform, where the content has a level of inappropriateness. A message has been issued via the school app asking parents and carers to make themselves aware of their child or young person's mobile phone usage and content.
"Police Scotland has been made aware of this matter."
