Police Search Catalan Town After Barcelona Attacker Killed

Police searched the town of Sant Sadurni in Spain on Monday, August 21 after they found and killed the suspect in the Barcelona van attack at a gas station near by.

Spanish police pursued and confronted a man at a gas station in Subirats, Spain, who is accused of driving a van into a crowd of people in Barcelona on August 17. Local media said a person in the area identified the suspect in the attack, Younes Abouyaaqoub, and called the police.

Spanish police said they shot and killed Abouyaaqoub, and then responded to a report of a suspicious van in the town of Sant Sadurni.

A manhunt for Abouyaaqoub had been underway since the van attack in Barcelona, which killed 13 people and injured more than a hundred. Abouyaaqoub is also believed to have escaped Las Ramblas by hijacking a car and killing its driver. Credit: Facebook/Alicia Garcia Garro via Storyful
