Police Use Taser on Detained Protester at Atlanta's Emory University

Police in Atlanta, Georgia, used a Taser on a handcuffed man at a protest at Emory University on Thursday, April 25, as similar demonstrations continued across campuses across the US.

Footage filmed by Ian Gallo shows officers restraining the man near the university’s library on Thursday morning.

Emory’s student newspaper reported that officers with the Atlanta Police Department (APD), Emory Police Department (EPD), and the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) used tear gas and arrested demonstrators, some of whom were reportedly also protesting the city’s controversial “Cop City” training center. Storyful has not independently verified that gas was deployed.

The university’s philosophy department chair, Noelle McAfee, was among those detained by police on Thursday, according to video posted by a reporter with Atlanta News First.
