Police want to speak to this man after reports of a sexual assault on a tram

Police have released two pictures of a man they want to speak after a female was reportedly sexually assaulted on a tram.

The attack was reported to have happened on a Metrolink service heading towards Ashton-under-Lyne on Saturday, May 18. Police said the suspect is believed to have got on the tram at the Etihad stadium and may be local to the north Manchester area.

At around 9.30pm, the female passenger was allegedly sexually assaulted. Officers said two men came to help her after the shocking attack.

Police believe the man in the pictures 'may be able to help with their enquiries'. Anyone who recognises him is being urged to get in touch.

They also want to speak to the two men who came to help. In an appeal posted on the GMP Tameside Facebook page last night, police said: "Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Transport Unit are appealing for information following reports of a sexual assault on a tram travelling on the #Ashton-Under-Lyne bound service on Saturday 18 May.

"At around 9.30pm, a female passenger was assaulted by a man while travelling on the service. It is believed the man may have alighted at the Metrolink tram stop at the Etihad stadium, and may be local to the North Manchester area.

"Officers have now released a picture of a man they would like to talk to, as it is believed he may be able to help with their enquiries. Investigators are additionally hoping to locate two men who came to the aid of the woman following the incident, and have asked them to get in touch.
