Pontus Dahbo 'tracked' by Celtic as transfer fee revealed in bid to land Swedish teenage breakout star

Rising Hacken star Pontus Dahbo is reportedly on Celtic's wanted list with the 18-year-old being watched by a clutch of European big-hitters.

The midfielder – who penned a new deal to 2025 in February – is valued at around £3.4million and is a regular at youth level in the Swedish international set-up. Dahbo is primed to be the next big sale for Hacken who have watched the likes of Benie Traore and Ibrahim Sadiq leave for big money. Celtic have a history of scouting in Scandinavia and Dahbo is regarded as the nation's second best emerging talent behind Tottenham-bound Lucas Bergvall.

It's understood boss Brendan Rodgers is seeking experienced talent this summer, however, Celtic have long eyed rising stars which has paid off on countless occasions over the past 15 years. The likes of Victor Wanyama, Virgil van Dijk, Moussa Dembele and Jeremie Frimpong are among the talents who have been sold for big fees.

And now Dahbo – who is reportedly happy at Hacken – could be next on the hit list, according to FD. The versatile midfielder can operate in multiple positions for a team who have become bonafide contenders in Sweden in recent years. Celtic are back in training and John Kennedy revealed plans are afoot to bring new players in.

The assistant manager said: “There’s a lot of conversations happening. It’s a time when a lot of players have been on holiday and different things have been happening. We come back for pre-season and hopefully in the coming weeks a few things will start to happen but there’s a lot of plates spinning and a lot of work getting done. Hopefully, we’ll start to see that materialise over the coming weeks.”
