Pool meeting to mark anniversary of when building work first started

SETTLE Area Swimming Pool users and supporters are invited to the pool annual meeting that will be held at on Thursday July 18.

The meeting coincides with the 50th anniversary of the start of work on the construction of the building in Kendal Road, Giggleswick, in July 1974.

The occasion will be marked with a presentation reflecting the fascinating story of how the people of the area to build the pool and ensure it continued to operate through very difficult times.

Outgoing chair Colin Coleman will report on a challenging year in which trustees have had to deal with a serious financial crisis, but which has also seen a number of generous donations and a successful bid to the Sport England Swimming Pool Support Fund which resulted in the addition of a second bank of solar panels. A new membership scheme has also been introduced during the year and participation in classes has grown. More children have also been taught to swim.

The annual meeting on July 18 is at 7pm an will take place in the fitSpace area of the pool.
