Pop Idol’s Michelle McManus Does A Frenchy From Grease

Viewers were perked up today when Pop Idol alumni Michelle McManus debuted a dramatic new look on mid-morning ITV show Lorraine and resembled Frenchy from the iconic movie Grease.

The 36-year-old Scottish singer, who found fame on Simon Cowell’s talent show back in 2003, sat down with the presenter for a chat about her career, weight, and upcoming nuptials and delighted viewers with the outlandish new do that was scarilly similar to Didi Conn’s character in the musical film.

Michelle explained she dyed her mousey blonde locks bubblegum pink to celebrate “the two weeks of summer Scotland gets”. The singer teamed the glamorous look with a chunky gold necklace and bright red lipstick.

Despite her fabulous new style, Michelle admitted she dreams of losing weight ahead of her wedding to longtime partner Jeff Nimmo next.

She said: “I am thinking I’m going to wire my jaws shut, I’m getting married next year. [No] I don’t want to get married at this weight.”

Michelle became the first Scottish singer ever to have a Number One single in the UK charts with her winning song All This Time. The bubbly star founded her own record label McManii Records in 2007 and has attempted to crack the charts again; in 2007 with her album Dancing To A Different Beat and in 2012 with the single Take You There.

The songstress is a household name and even performed for the Pope in 2010 on his visit to the UK, and aside from music, she’s a lifestyle columnist for the Glasgow Evening Times.

Meanwhile, Michelle - who will perform her one woman cabaret show at Edinburgh Festival on August 4 - admitted she’ll always feel pressured to shed weight but is happy regardless.

She said: “It was difficult. Everybody wants to look their best and lose weight. The weight thing was such a big deal. It will always be a part of me if I’m a skinny minny or if I’m not. I am [happy].”
