Pope Celebrates Easter Sunday Mass in Almost Empty St Peter's Basilica

Pope Francis celebrated Easter Sunday mass in an almost empty St Peter’s Basilica on April 12 “surrounded only by his closest collaborators,” as the coronavirus pandemic forced worshipers around the world to alter their plans.

The pope delivered his annual Urbi et Orbi message from the basilica.

“For many, this is an Easter of solitude, lived amid the sorrow and hardship that the pandemic is causing, from physical suffering to economic difficulties”, he said, Vatican News reported. “But the Lord has not left us alone. United in our prayer, we are convinced that He has laid His hand upon us.” Credit: Vatican News via Storyful
