The GT3 RS uses the familiar four-litre flat six engine. With 513bhp on tap, it's 20bhp up on both the old 911 GT3 RS and the current generation of 911 GT3. This gives on-paper acceleration figures of 0-60mph in 3.0 seconds, along with a 194mph top speed. The engine drivers a seven-speed PDK dual -clutch automatic gearbox, delivering all of its power to the rear wheels alone.

Underneath the GT3 RS is a chassis developed from Porsche's motorsport activities. All of the suspension arms feature ball joints rather than traditional flexible plastic bushings, for greater precision. The GT3 RS continues to feature Porsche's rear-axle steering, re-calibrated for this particular application.

Weight is a key factor, and Porsche specifies a number of lightweight components for the car. These include lighter door panels, with storage nets and nylon opening loops in place of door handles. Porsche makes much of the interior from carbon fibre, including the single piece bucket seats. There's also a lightweight engine cover and reduced sound proofing. The GT3 RS features new, lighter 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear, with 325mm tyres on the back wheels.

Porsche also offers a Weissach package, that further reduces the GT3 RS's weight. This includes more carbon fibre components within the chassis and interior and exterior, along with magnesium wheels. With this pack fitted, the 911 GT3 RS comes in at 1,430kg.

For track-day fans, there's a no-cost Clubsport package. This features a six-point safety harness, integrated roll bar and a manual fire extinguisher.

The 911 GT3 RS is available to order now for £141,346 in the UK, with first deliveries expected in June.
