Campaigners Try Raising Global Warming Awareness With Record-Size Postcard

An attempt to construct the world’s largest postcard was made on Switzerland’s Alestch glacier, near Jungfraujoch, on November 16, as part of a campaign against global warming, Switzerland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

The postcard, consisting of over 125,000 promises and messages from young people around the world, called for limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. A recent intergovernmental panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report concluded that limiting warming to that level may still be possible, and would still keep the impact of climate change at a tolerable level.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation led the project and chose the famed mountain Jungfraujoch as the location in order to highlight the impact of raising global temperatures on glaciers around the world.

The world-record attempt was also aimed at raising awareness of global warming ahead of a climate conference taking place in Poland in December.

The ministry said the Jungfraujoch postcard measured 2,500 square meters. The current record stands at 57.188 square meters and was achieved in Hong Kong, China, in December 2014.
