Poundland in legal row with Toblerone
Poundland has been forced to delay the launch of its 'Twin Peaks' chocolate bar due to a legal battle with Toblerone.
Last month (June 20), the budget brand announced a partnership with a Birmingham chocolatier to launch a new, rival chocolate bar called 'Twin Peaks'. But the store has reportedly delayed the launch of its confectionary copycat indefinitely after receiving a legal letter from the Swiss chocolate maker.
But despite the dispute, Poundland insists that the launch of its rival chocolate will still eventually go ahead.
According to The Guardian, both sides declined to comment on the dispute but a Poundland spokesperson said: "Twin Peaks is still in development."
It's believed Poundland and Toblerone had talks earlier this month.
Poundland prides itself on the new double mountain bar having a distinctive British flavour compared to the more traditional milk nougat bars from Switzerland.
Back in June, Poundland trading director Barry Williams said: "Poundland shoppers are savvy, and the change in their favourite chocolate bar last Christmas didn't go unnoticed.
"That's why we've created a new £1 alternative for them – the size they wanted, with a British taste, and with all the spaces in the right places."
Twin Peaks chocolate bars were originally expected to be available at Poundland's famous £1 price point in stores across the country from the first week of July.
