Erling Haaland and Ollie Watkins have been dealt a blow to their chances of winning the Premier League Golden Boot this season after Cole Palmer netted a hat-trick against Everton. Chelsea stormed past the Toffees at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, with the former Manchester City ace scoring three in the first half.

Inside the opening quarter of an hour, Palmer guided the ball past Jordan Pickford after a one-two with Nicolas Jackson carved open Sean Dyche's backline. Just minutes later, the 21-year-old midfielder reacted quickest and nodded the ball into an empty net.

The Everton shot-stopper parried a shot from Jackson into the heart of the six-yard box, and Palmer pounced to double the west London outfit's lead. Pickford was at fault again for the third, which completed the 'perfect' hat-trick.

Palmer intercepted a loose pass into Amadou Onana and lobbed his fellow country from 40 yards on his weaker right foot. He then netted a penalty on the hour-mark to add to his tally.

The Chelsea talisman has now leapfrogged Dominic Solanke, Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Ollie Watkins in the race for the Golden Boot. With 20 goals to his name, Palmer is now rubbing shoulders with Erling Haaland, who's netted just as many this term.

So, as the race for top scorer builds a head of steam, football.london has taken a look at the latest odds from OddsChecker. Haaland remains the favourite at 8/11, with Palmer tipped at 9/2. Watkins has been priced at 6/1, meanwhile, Salah has come in at 14/1 and Isak at 14/1.

Gabriel Martinelli, who has scored six this season, remains an outsider at 14/5. Nevertheless, speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football show, Jamie Carragher and Dele Alli analysed Palmer's hat-trick.

The former Liverpool defender said: "This lad has been sensational all season. He’s been one of the best players in the Premier League this season. I know it has been a tough season for Chelsea.

"Everton were being really aggressive and trying to press really high and they had joy early on, but it also caused them problems because when Chelsea beat the press as they do here, they found space with Cole Palmer between the lines.

"He megs [Jarrad] Branthwaite, plays a little one-two with his partner Jackson, and he just opens his foot up and finds that far corner. When you are talking about class and composure, I mean this is brilliant.

"You can always pick holes in goals defensively, but this for me is absolutely sensational for one of the best players in the Premier League."

On Palmer's second, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder said: "I haven’t seen it before but chances like this one, he is the only one following up the play and that is a strikers goal. He’s anticipated that the keeper is going to make the save and he’s the first to react."

Then, on his third, Carragher added: "Jordan Pickford has had a nightmare. He should have done better on that one with the second goal and here, I am not sure why he is trying to pass through Chelsea with his right foot.

"He’s got a great left foot but that’s the difference when you see a goalkeeper using his right foot and an outfield player using his right foot. It is a poor first touch, he just has to go to Tarkowski, but that is a great finish with your weaker foot, it really is."
