The Premier League has confirmed that no players or non-playing staff have tested positive for coronavirus in the latest round of testing.

The news will come as a further boost to the Premier League after the government gave the green light for British sport to resume from June 1, with top-flight football scheduled to restart on June 17.

A total of 1,130 players and club personnel were tested in the fourth round of screening, with the all-clear raising confidence around the planned resumption.

A statement read: "The Premier League can today confirm that on Thursday 28 May and Friday 29 May, 1130 players and club staff were tested for Covid-19. Of these, zero have tested positive."

The current testing round was the largest yet, with each club able to access up to 60. The previous three rounds, completed between May 17 and May 26, yielded a total of 12 positives from a sample size in excess of 2,700.

The latest batch of tests were completed on Thursday and Friday and are the first to be completed following a unanimous vote to resume contact training.

Testing will continue on a twice-weekly basis as the resumption of the season moves closer.
