Everton look set to know the outcome of their appeal against the two-point deduction for a second financial breach before they play their final game of this season.

The Blues slipped to 16th place in the Premier League table, two places above the relegation zone, after being docked two points for admitting breaking spending rules by £16.6 million for the three-year period up to June 2023 earlier this month.

However, the Goodison Park club, which had already deducted six points for a financial breach of £19.5m up to June 2022, confirmed on Monday that it had formally lodged its appeal of the two-point deduction imposed by a Premier League commission.

And now the independent appeal board has announced that they will attempt to confirm the decision of the appeal and have the outcome revealed before the last round of matches on May 19 in order to give certainty to the final league table.

A Premier League statement read: “The independent Appeal Board has confirmed it intends to announce its decision regarding Everton Football Club before the last day of the current season.

“This follows Everton appealing the two-point deduction imposed by an independent Commission on the club following its admission of a breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

“The Appeal Board’s intention to make its decision public in advance of Sunday 19 May will provide certainty to all clubs and fans.

“If it is necessary, to achieve the intended timings, the Appeal Board will publish its written reasons separately, by no later than 1 June 2024, in accordance with the Premier League’s Standard Directions.

“No further comment will be made in respect of the case until the Appeal Board’s decision is issued.”
