So what can we expect from this new spin-off?

Here's everything we know about Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.

Is Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin still filming?

We're one step closer to ushering in a new set of Liars. On May 8, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin co-creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed that the HBO Max series has finished filming and hinted at the show's premiere date. "Last night, the first season of “PLL: Original Sin” wrapped. This summer, the truth of what happened in this house will be revealed," he wrote on Instagram.

He also dished on the show's plot. "Every small town has one. The creepy house at the end of the land. Where the "weird" girl lives with her "crazy" family," he wrote. "In Millwood, this is that house. Where the Waters family once lived." Adding more details about the storyline, the screenwriter continued, "Angela and her mother Rose. Until…something bad happened to Angela, and Rose…lost her mind, they said. What happened to Angela was unspeakable. But no one knows the real story. Not Angela’s classmates back in 1999. And not the daughters of her classmates, currently students at Millwood High. Sometimes, it takes a liar to uncover the truth. And sometimes, it takes FIVE liars…"

MArk your cAlendArs — Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will premiere Thursday, July 28 on HBO Max, with three episodes dropping then, followed by two episodes on August 4 and 11. The final three will hit the streaming giant on August 18.

Who is starring in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin?

It looks like we officially have all our new Liars in place for Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.

According to a report by Deadline, Malia Pyles and Zaria have joined HBO Max's PLL reboot, completing the main cast. Malia is taking on the role of Minnie, the youngest of the crew. She spends most of her time in a "virtual world" after surviving childhood trauma and is more than capable of taking on the dark forces of Millwood — including "A."

Zaria will play Faran, a poised, disciplined ballerina with aspirations to make it out of Millwood. On top of dealing with "A," Faran also faces microaggressions in the world of ballet.

In July 2021, Deadline reported that Chandler Kinney (Zombies 2) and Maia Reficco are joining the cast as the show's leads."Kinney will play Tabby, an aspiring director, and horror movie buff. Like the other Little Liars, Tabby's hiding a secret. Reficco will portray Noa, a striving, sardonic track star who's working hard to get her life back to normal after a summer spent in juvenile detention,"

Deadline reported. On August 19, 2021, series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared a photo of all the new Liars on Instagram, confirming that casting for the main characters is complete.

"And then there were five. Our quintet of Pretty Little Liars (aka Stunning Empowered Final Girls) is complete!" Roberto captioned the photo. "Can't wait to join you in our bubble of thrills and chills!

Now the only iconic character missing is…[A]."In an April 2022 interview with E! News, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa dished about "Millwood High's reigning queen of mean," Karen Beasley, who's played by Mallory Bechtel."At one point in time, she was a good friend to Imogen, but since their falling out, she has become a daily antagonist to our Little Liars," Roberto told the outlet.

Has the original cast commented on the reboot?

The original cast from Freeform's Pretty Little Liars is super excited for Original Sin. Sasha Pieterse —who starred as Alison DiLaurentis, a loveable bully in the first series— offered Mallory Bechtel advice after she was confirmed as Karen Beasley, Milwood, Pennsylvania's new mean girl. The Original Sin star opened up to PopSugar about the kind words Sasha gave her. "When they posted my first look as Karen, Sasha Pieterse commented and added me. [She] gave [me] words of support, saying, 'It's always so fun to be a mean girl; enjoy this experience," she said.

Mallory went on to share her reaction to Sasha's shoutout on social media and her long-time appreciation for Sasha's skills in both film and television. "We were on set, and I forgot how to speak and became so hot. I was so excited. I have adored Sasha for so long — '[The Adventures of] Shark Boy and Lava Girl,' everything she's been in. It was so surreal, and it was so sweet of her. I was so happy."

OG Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale is continuing her support of the HBO max series, too. She dished to Extra during the show's premiere event about her excitement over the new series, its director Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and her IRL friend Bailee Madison who stars in Original Sin. "I obviously love Roberto, and I love Bailee," she said. "I've watched the first two episodes, and it's really freaking cool.

She also detailed the things she enjoys about the reboot. "There’s so many parts of it where the original fans will grasp on to, but there is a new take on it. They really hone in on the slasher/horror thing, and it’s very scary," Lucy continued. "The acting's great, the writing’s great, and it’s just really fun, but there’s enough newness that it feels really fresh."

Lucy previously shared her thoughts on the reboot during an interview with ET. "I’m excited for this new group of girls. I hope it does well. I really do," she said. "I think people want me to be upset about it, and I’m stoked for them. I want to watch. It’s exciting."

She even offered advice for the Original Sin cast. "Just enjoy it. Your life’s going to change. Just soak it all in," Lucy advised."I wasn’t always that way. I was always thinking 10 steps ahead, so I would miss out on moments. Ride the wave. Stay around good people."

In an August 2021 interview with E! News' Daily Pop, Shay Mitchell revealed she would "never say never" about participating in the new HBO Max series. "[Pretty Little Liars] was such a memorable moment in all of our lives, so I'm excited to see whatever happens and where they take it," she said of Original Sin.

According to HBO Max, "Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Now, in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago...as well as their own. Who are the showrunners behind Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin?

The location isn't the only thing that's changing. Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is co-writing the series with Lindsay Calhoon Bring. The two previously worked together on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

"We're such huge fans of what I. Marlene King and her iconic cast created, we knew that we had to treat the original series as #canon and do something different," Roberto and Lindsay said in a joint statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "So, we're leaning into the suspense and horror in this reboot, which hopefully will honor what the fans loved about the hit series while weaving in new, unexpected elements."

Will it air on Freeform?

Along with the brand new showrunners, the series will also be taking the Pretty Little Liars to a whole other network. Unlike the previous Pretty Little Liars spin-offs, this show will air on HBO Max, which is currently where fans can rewatch the original series. HBO Max is also behind the upcoming Gossip Girl reboot, so they know a thing or two about bringing our favorite shows back to life.
