The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in Fiji on day 8 of their royal tour and were greeted by huge crowds as they travelled to Albert Park in the capital city of Suva.

Prince Harry and Meghan attended an official welcome ceremony, known as the Veirqaraqaravi Vakavanua, which echoed the one given to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh on the coronation tour in 1953.

The royal couple watched a number of traditional Fijian dance performances and Harry gave a short speech, before drinking kava, which is a traditional drink thought to have medicinal qualities and is made from a mashed plant root.

Prince Harry and Meghan then travelled to the Grand Pacific Hotel, the same accommodation his grandmother the Queen and Prince Philip stayed in during their trip.

History repeated itself as the Duke and Duchess appeared on the balcony to wave to well-wishers, who’d gathered to see them.

Pregnant Meghan also appeared to pay a subtle tribute to Her Majesty and her father-in-law, by wearing a pair of pearl and diamond earrings gifted to her by the Queen and a bracelet that was given to her by Prince Charles.

She teamed her jewellery with a white long-sleeved midi dress by Zimmermann and a matching hat by Stephen Jones.

In the evening, the Duke and Duchess attended a State Dinner, hosted by the President of Fiji Jioji Konrote.

Prince Harry gave a speech, in which he spoke about his grandparents.

He said: “This visit is particularly nostalgic for us as a young married couple – my grandparents stayed in this very hotel, the Grand Pacific, a number of times over the years.”
