Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made a donation to an Afghan women’s charity.

Women and girls are among those whose lives will be most impacted by the strict new regime after Afghanistan fell to the Taliban.

The charity Women for Afghan Women (WAW) thanked the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on social media on Monday.

It shared a message of gratitude on Instagram after the donation was made via the royal couple’s Archewell Foundation.

The charity wrote on Instagram: “We are immensely grateful for the generosity of the Archewell Foundation in support of our efforts to evacuate/relocate thousands of Afghan women, children, families, including our staff.”

WAW has made its mark as the largest women’s organisation in Afghanistan and employs around 850 staff to provide support for women, children and families.

The donation was made after Harry and Meghan issued a statement saying they had been left “speechless” by the Taliban’s advance across Afghanistan.

Prince Harry carried out two tours of Afghanistan during his decade of service in the army.

The statement on their Archewell website said: “The world is exceptionally fragile right now.

“As we all feel the many layers of pain due to the situation in Afghanistan, we are left speechless.

“As we all watch the growing humanitarian disaster in Haiti, and the threat of it worsening after last weekend’s earthquake, we are left heartbroken.

“And as we all witness the continuing global health crisis, exacerbated by new variants and constant misinformation, we are left scared.’

“When any person or community suffers, a piece of each of us does so with them, whether we realise it or not.”

It comes after GB News’ Simon McCoy erupted into laughter at Prince Harry and Meghan’s Afghanistan statement.
