Prince Harry bid a 'final goodbye' to life as a royal in the UK following an incident which was the 'final straw' for him, a royal expert has claimed. It was recently revealed the Duke of Sussex had changed his primary residence from the United Kingdom to the United States.

This was done in June 2023 on the same day Buckingham Palace confirmed Harry and his wife Meghan Markle had left their home in England, Frogmore Cottage. The couple handed back their keys at the request of the king.

It came months after the release of Harry's explosive autobiography Spare. Harry wrote about how King Charles had asked his son and Meghan to vacate Frogmore Cottage which reportedly left Harry "furious."

Now living in America with Meghan and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, Harry is set to return to the UK next month for an event which will be his 'final goodbye' to royal life on our shores. Royal expert and author, Tom Quinn, told The Mirror: "Harry is scheduled to speak at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on May 8 to mark the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games.

"The Games were founded by Harry when he was still a working royal so pressure isn’t being brought to bear to make him give it up now. But even if Harry begged to be allowed back to help out - even if his father King Charles became so ill he was unable to carry out his duties - whatever happens, the call to help will never go out to Montecito. Making the US his primary residence is Harry’s final goodbye."

Harry had endured the "last straw" when he and Meghan were evicted from Frogmore Cottage, Mr Quinn added. He said: "At the time, few people realised what a slap in the face the eviction from Frogmore felt like for Harry – it was the last straw."

The Mirror contacted Prince Harry's representatives and Buckingham Palace for comment.
