The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, has visited the set of long-running soap Coronation Street.

In pictures shared to The Royal Family's official social media account, Princess Anne can be seen on set at various iconic locations from the iconic soap as well as chatting to cast members of the Coronation Street cast.

In the caption shared alongside the pictures, it was revealed that the Princess Royal visited the set to talk about a very important and sensitive issue: "The Princess Royal has visited the set of Coronation Street, meeting members of the cast and production team who are involved in the soap opera’s acid attack storyline.

"Her Royal Highness is Patron of The Acid Survivors Trust International (A.S.T.I), who have been advising the programme’s producers and writers."

The official Instagram account for Coronation Street also shared some images of Princess Anne on set.

Alongside these images, a caption reads: "The Princess Royal today (Monday March 20th) visited ITV Studios Coronation Street to meet cast and members of the production team involved in the acid attack storyline."

Elaborating on the Coronation Street storyline, which will see an acid attack take place, ITV announced ASTI has been advising on the scenes that will occur.

Speaking of the visit from The Princess Royal and the charity, John Whiston, Head of ITV in the North/MD Continuing Drama, says: "Working with ASTI on this storyline has been invaluable to all of us. HRH's patronage of the charity is clearly of huge importance to both Her Royal Highness and the charity and it was an absolute honour to have them join us at Coronation Street today. The visit gave both cast and colleagues the chance to discuss how they have worked together to create and portray such a delicate and important storyline, an opportunity none of us will forget."
