Lincoln and Michael are both heading back into action in a sixth season of Prison Break, if one cast member's latest comments are any indication.

The action-adventure series returned after an eight-year absence earlier this spring, in what was billed by US channel Fox as a limited series event. But there have been rumblings about making more ever since.

Despite Fox saying over the summer that it wasn't ready to commission a sixth season at that time, cast member Dominic Purcell has now seemingly confirmed on Instagram that another Prison Break revival is indeed "in the works".

Fox is not commenting on Purcell's Instagram post. His co-star, and fellow DC's Legends of Tomorrow cast member, Wentworth Miller will seemingly have more free time to commit to Prison Break since he's departing the DC TV universe later this season.

Back in November, Wentworth shared a truly barmy idea of how he'd like to completely reinvent the Prison Break franchise after its most recent miniseries.

In his storyline pitch, a billionaire would kidnap Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows and force them to relive their most memorable prison escapes from years past – including Fox River (season one), Sona (season three), and Ogygia (season five).

Whether series creator Paul Scheuring ultimately goes that way obviously remains to be seen, but his writing team have expressed an interest in creating new stories within the world of Prison Break.

Prison Break airs on FOX in the UK and the US.
