Prizes up for grabs for the best Worcester-inspired Lego model

A WORCESTER toy shop has launched a competition to design and build a city-inspired Lego model, with top prizes up for grabs.

The challenge is being run by Toys and Games of Worcester, with over £500 of Lego to be won for the best builders.

The design could be your favourite place, a historic building, a famous person, or something Worcester is known for.

Suggestions from 'Toys and Games' co-owner Tim Evans include something inspired by Lea and Perrins, the Civil War or even Lego re-creations of Worcester Foregate Street, New Road and Worcester Cathedral.

"The exciting possibilities are endless" said Mr Evans.

"There are so many brilliant things we associate with Worcester and Worcestershire you could create.

"Kit Harrington is from Worcestershire, there are plenty of Elgar inspirations, and we also have the Guildhall.

"I really like the idea of someone doing a Morgan Show Car or a big Worcester Cathedral.

"But designs don't just have to be buildings- just things we see in Worcester all the time, from cars and vans to shops."

Models should be brought to Toys and Games of Worcester on the week commencing Monday, July 22.

The final deadline for applications is Monday, July 29.

All the designs will then be put on display in Crowngate throughout August.

After a public vote has whittled down the entries to the best few, a judging panel comprising of Mr Evans and representatives from Crowngate and Lego will decide the winners.

First prize for the over 18s category will receive a Lego Idea The Globe set worth £200, with the runner up winning a Harry Potter Harry and Hermione set.

For the under 18s, the winner will get a Star Wars The Justifier Lego set while a Lego Ski and Climbing Centre will be available to second place.

And everyone who enters will receive their Lego back after the competition.

Mr Evans added: "This competition was set up to get people thinking about Worcester and all it has to offer.

"I really think this is a great idea and I can't wait to see people's designs."
