Protesters Gather as Jailed Pro-Democracy Activist Appears in Hong Kong Court to Appeal Conviction

Hundreds of supporters of the jailed Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Edward Leung gathered outside the High Court on Queensway on October 9, where Leung’s appeal against his conviction was being heard.

Leung was jailed for six years for his role in a riot in 2016 that broke out during a protest at Lunar New Year.

Supporters outside the court unfurled banners bearing the campaign slogan from when Leung ran for the Legislative Council in 2016: “Reclaim Hong Kong! Revolution of Our Time!”

The court said its decision would be given on a later date, according to local reports. Credit: @alexhker via Storyful
