Protesters March and Chant on Streets in Anger After Iran Said it Shot Down Ukrainian Plane

Protesters took to the streets of Tehran, Iran, on January 11, to showcase their anger at the announcement from Iranian authorities that it shot down a commercial airline by mistake.

A protester can be heard discussing the face-off with police forces, who are marching toward the protesters. Other protesters can be heard chanting an insulting slogan meaning “immoral or unethical person,” a Farsi-speaking Storyful journalist confirmed.

The protesters can also be seen raising their fists in the air. In the distance, police wearing riot gear can be seen approaching the crowd of demonstrators.

The Iranian authorities at one point deployed tear gas in an effort to disperse protesters, journalists on the ground reported. Other videos of tear gas canisters being fired outside the university were posted to social media by anonymous accounts.

A statement issued by the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff on January 11 said that flight PS752 was accidentally shot down, as it was “approaching a sensitive military center of the IRGC” and that the launch of the missile was due to human error. Credit: ANONYMOUS via Storyful
