Protests Erupt in Harare as Zanu-PF Take Lead in Election Results

Protesters shut down parts of Harare’s Central Business District on August 1, as early voting results indicated Emmerson Mnangagwa was in the lead to win the presidential election.

His party, Zanu-PF, looked set to win the majority of parliament seats.

Reports said supporters of the rival party, MDC Alliance, set a Zanu-PF flag on fire.

On July 31 Zimbabwe took to the polls for the first time since the removal of Robert Mugabe as president in 2017. Mugabe had been president for 30 years after serving as prime minister for seven years.
