'Proud to be British': Victoria Beckham receives OBE for fashion success

Victoria Beckham has received an OBE from Prince William in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

The fashion designer was joined by husband David Beckham, who was given the same honour in 2003 for his successful football career.

The 43-year-old former Spice Girl has made a success of her fashion line despite initial scepticism over her ability to cross over from singing to design.

Her 17-year-long career made its debut at the New York Fashion Week, and since then she has become one of the biggest names in the business.

Last year, her label raked in £36.9m.

She has launched collaborations with Estée Lauder for a Victoria Beckham make-up collection, and with US retailer Target for an affordable clothing collection, due to go on sale this spring.

"It was an absolute pleasure to be at Buckingham Palace today. I'm proud to be British, honoured and humbled to receive my OBE from the Duke of Cambridge," she said in a statement.

"If you dream big and work hard you can accomplish great things," she added.

"I'm so happy to share this very special occasion with my parents and husband; without their love and support, none of this would be possible."

Olympic star Jessica Ennis-Hill and award-winning actor Mark Rylance also received honours at the palace.
