Since its launch in 2020, the PlayStation 5 has been ridiculously difficult to get a hold of. Supply chain issues stemming from the coronavirus pandemic have brought the production of Sony’s latest games console to a near-standstill.
Thankfully, the stock situation has improved massively in recent months, with PS5 bundles being readily available in at least one retailer since late April. Game and the BT Shop, plus several independent retailers such as The Game Collection and Scan have continued to lead the charge.
This avalanche of console restocks carried on throughout July, and so far I looks like the good news will continue throughout August and into September. But while restocks have become more frequent, buying a console on its own is still a challenge, with retailers preferring to restock bundles over the standalone console – those sell out in the blink of an eye. We only started seeing digital console bundles arrive in stores last month, but even those have since dried up.

As it has done for months now, BT is offering its existing customers exclusive access to a range of PS5 bundles. If you’re a broadband customer, simply log into your online account and request an access code. Enter this in the BT Shop website and you’ll be given the ability to buy one of several PS5 bundles.
The cheapest of these is £409.99 and includes the PS5 disc edition console with a download code for Horizon Forbidden West. For those who want a console without games, BT has the PS5 digital edition with a second Dualsense controller for £419.97, or the disc edition, also with two gamepads, for £508.98.
If you want the disc edition console, Horizon Forbidden West and a second controller, that’ll cost you £549.97.
Where to buy a PS5 console on its own

While stock levels are better now than they have been for months, it’s still difficult to find a console on its own, as most retailers prefer to sell them as part of a bundle.
Thankfully, Sony’s own PlayStation Direct online store is here to help, with the PS5 disc edition available on its own and at its regular retail price of £449.99. All you need to do is sign in with your PlayStation credentials, then you can buy the console.
Where to buy the PS5 digital edition today

The cheaper PS5 digital edition, which doesn’t have a disc drive, has always been much more difficult to buy than the pricier disc edition. We have spotted some more stock in recent weeks, but currently one of the only places selling the console online is The Game Collection. And, in a move that somewhat undermines the digital edition’s lower price, the console is part of a £619.95 bundle with Horizon Forbidden West, Fortnite: The Last Laugh, a second Dualsense controller (in black), the official PlayStation Pulse 3D gaming headset, and a controller charging dock.
Remember, because there’s no disc drive, games that come bundled with this console are download codes.

Although the Smyths Toys website is sold out – and likely will be for a while – the retailer has some PS5s in stock at its physical stores. A bundle with the PS5 disc edition and Horizon Forbidden West, priced at £499.99, is available at many branches of Smyths Toys, according to a stock-checking tool on the retailer’s website.

It looks like Smyths Toys has a good amount of PS5 consoles in stock at its physical stores today. A £499.99 bundle with the PS5 disc edition and Horizon Forbidden West is currently on the shelves of Smyths Toys branches in 48 branches right across the UK. Some stores only have one or two consoles in stock, however, so it might be worth calling up to check stock is still available before you visit.
As for online availability at Smyths, the retailer says more PS5 consoles will be available for home delivery at some point in August without giving a specific date.

Smyths is due a PS5 restock this month

We haven’t seen much from Smyths Toys recently. The retailer last had a PS5 restock on 13 July, which quickly sold out. And despite then saying more consoles would arrive before the end of the month, that didn’t happen. There’s currently no online stock to be had, but Smyths says more PS5 consoles will arrive at some point in August, with no specific date given.
As ever, we’ll update you as soon as we hear more about a Smyths Toys PS5 restock.
How to buy a PS5 from Amazon

Amazon recently changed how it sells PS5 consoles. Instead of stock appearing at random then selling out in the blink of an eye, the retail giant now asks shoppers to request an invitation. Click the button, and you’ll be added to a waiting list. Then, when Amazon has consoles in stock, it will pick lucky shoppers from that list at random.
If you are chosen, you’ll be sent an email inviting you to make the purchase; you have a few days to complete the order, and once you do the console will be sent out right away. Crucially, this is for the standard disc edition console on its own with no games or accessories. So if that’s what you want, you should head over to Amazon, click the ‘request invitation’ button, and keep an eye on your email inbox over the next few days.
This PS5 bundle at Scan is unlike any other

Scan has a PS5 bundle in stock that’s different to any other. Instead of including lots of games – or ‘Player1’ branded clothing, as Game does – Scan includes a 1TB storage expansion card and a Sabrent heatsink to help keep the PS5 and its storage nice and cool.
The bundle costs £719.99 and comes with the PS5 disc edition, plus Horizon Forbidden West and a second Dualsense controller.
Very has PS5 consoles available for pre-order

Very also has PS5 consoles available today, but they are being sold through a pre-ordering system and will be delivered slightly later in the month, on 26 August. The retailer has the PS5 disc edition bundle with Horizon Forbidden West for £499.99, or for £559.98 if you add an additional Dualsense controller.
BT has turned its access code system back on

We all got a bit excited yesterday when BT removed the need for an access code to buy a PS5 from its BT Shop website. These codes are only available for BT customers, so for a while anyone could pick up a console, no code required.
However, we’re now wondering if this was a mistake, as access codes are required once again. If you are a BT broadband customer you can request a code when logging into the website. Then you just need to enter this in the BT Shop website, and you’ll be able to buy a console. BT currently has four PS5 bundles in stock (but no consoles on their own).

PS5 disc edition with a second Dualsense controller (black): £508.98
PS5 disc edition with a second Dualsense controller (red): £513.99

If you have a larger budget for your PS5 purchase, then electronics retailer Hughes has a couple of bundles for you. The first is priced at £659.94 and includes the PS5 disc edition with a second Dualsense controller, Horizon Forbidden West, Fifa 22 and the official PS5 media remote.
Another Hughes bundle includes the disc edition console, second Dualsense controller, Fifa 22, Gran Turismo 7 and a gaming headset for £699.95.

Game is another retailer with PS5 stock available today, but the console isn’t available to buy on its own. Instead, the cheapest bundle at Game is priced at £564.98 and includes the console with Horizon Forbidden West, a second Dualsense controller and a ‘Player 1’ t-shirt. Adding a charging dock for two controllers increases the price to £589.97.
Alternatively, the console can is available with Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7 and a second Dualsense controller for £629.97.

Having restocked its virtual shelves yesterday, PS Direct still has disc edition consoles in stock and ready to buy right now. What’s key here is how the consoles are offered on their own and not part of a bundle, making it easier to buy exactly what you want, instead of spending more on a bundle with games and accessories you might not be looking for.
The PS5 disc edition is available now for £449.99, and all you have to do is log into your PlayStation account on the PS Direct website to make the purchase. The console can also be bought with Horizon Forbidden West for £499.99.

Whew, we think this might have been the busiest Monday for PS5 restocks on record. It’s usually pretty quiet, but all the retailers came out to play today, and BT finally got rid of its annoying access code programme, so anyone can now buy a console from its website.
Missed the standalone PS5 disc edition console drops from Amazon and PlayStation Direct? PS5 bundles are still in stock at the BT Shop, Game, Very, Currys, Hughes, EE and Scan. Hogwarts Legacy release date: Here’s when you can play the Harry Potter game

Hogwarts Legacy is an open world tie-in to the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Interactive this game will take students into the ever-changing halls of Hogwarts as we’ve never seen them before. The game is scheduled to be released later this year and fans think they have spotted clues that could hint at when the game may be expected to launch.
Set before the events of Fantastic Beasts, players will attend Hogwarts in the 19th century as a customisable student in one of the four main houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.

The best bundle at Hughes sold out last week, so you’ve only got two to pick from. They’re not the most attractive bundles in the world, considering they both come with Fifa 22, which is about to become redundant (and was free as part of the PS Plus subscription a few months ago) but we’ll walk you through the bundles either way.
The cheapest bundle costs £654.94 and comes with an extra black dualsense controller, Fifa 22, Horizon Forbidden West, a media remote and a controller charger.
There is also a £699.95 bundle in stock. It comes with an extra black controller, Fifa 22, Gran Turismo 7 and a pulse 3D wireless headset.

This is when things get expensive. Currys currently have nine PS5 bundles in stock, but none of them are cheap, seeing as they all come with a bunch of games and various accessories, including 1TB internal SSDs.
The cheapest PS5 bundle costs £649 and comes with a copy of Horizon Forbidden West, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and a 1TB internal SSD. Other bundles can cost as much as £729.

Game has five bundles in stock right now, and they all come with Horizon Forbidden West and an extra controller as standard. Weirdly, the bundle with just an extra controller costs way more than the bundles with a T-shirt thrown in, and even more than the bundle with a controller charging station.
The cheapest bundle costs £564.98, while the most expensive bundle costs £627.97 and comes with Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7 and an extra dualsense wireless controller.
EE is selling this PS5 bundle for £515

Next up, we’ve got EE, who is currently selling the PS5 disc edition console with an extra controller for £515. You need to be an EE pay monthly customer on a contract 12-months or longer, and you’ll pay for it in £45 instalments over an 11-month period.
BT is selling this exact bundle for about £5 cheaper than the mobile network provider, but if you aren’t a BT customer, EE is the next best thing.
Very has the cheapest disc edition bundle in stock

Don’t have a BT Broadband access code but still want one of the best deals on the PS5? We’ve just spotted that the PS5 disc edition console is in stock at Very. It costs £499.99 and it comes with Horizon Forbidden West.
Very is the only retailer with this bundle in stock right now and you’re unlikely to find a better bundle deal than this one, considering it’s the cheapest official PS5 package.
The BT Shop has digital edition bundles in stock

If you’re on the hunt for a digital edition console this morning, then the BT Shop is your best bet. It is currently the only place where you can buy a digital edition console right now. The retailer is selling the digital edition PS5 with a copy of Horizon Forbidden West and an extra controller for £459.99 – that’s a pretty good deal.
The retailer also has disc edition consoles in stock, starting at £508.99 for a PS5 and an extra controller. You need an access code to buy the console, and this can only be obtained if you’re a BT Broadband customer. That’s the catch.
