Queen hosts reception at Sandringham on eve of Accession Day

The Queen has hosted a reception for members of the local community and volunteer groups at Sandringham House on the eve of Accession Day, the seventieth anniversary of Her Majesty’s reign. After meeting the assembled guests, The Queen cut a cake specially prepared for the occasion by a local resident, featuring The Platinum Jubilee emblem. Her Majesty also received a posy on departure, which included flowers that formed part of The Queen’s Coronation bouquet in 1953, such as lily of the valley. Entertainment at the tea was provided by Hunstanton Concert Band, who played ‘Congratulations’ for Her Majesty as She departed Sandringham House. On Sunday 6th February, The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking seventy years since Her Majesty acceded the throne. The Queen traditionally spends Accession Day at Sandringham House.
