Tributes have been paid to the "Queen of Lark Lane" who is "lost but not forgotten".

Mo Hughes died on April 18 just weeks after celebrating her 92nd birthday. She earned herself the nickname of the "Queen of Lark Lane" after the Aigburth road which she visited everyday.

Mo will be remembered for her red lipstick, huge smile and for propping up the bar at one of Lark Lane's many pubs and bars. Family friend Kathy Wilkinson, 68, told the ECHO: "She was born on Lark Lane and she died on Lark Lane.

"She was on Lark Lane every single day of her life that I know of. She'd have a drink in every bar. Everybody knew her and everybody looked after her. She always had a smile on her face."

Hundreds of people have shared their memories of Mo since the ECHO shared the news of her death, including on the People of Lark Lane Facebook page. While "the word 'legend' is often over used", one person said in Mo's case it is "justified by all the wonderful comments in her memory."

Paying tribute, one person wrote: "So sad the news of little Mo. She was lovely when we were kids. She took all the kids to the shop and bought us all a lolly ice. Lovely lady. God bless Mo, all my love."

Another said: "If you didn’t know Mo then you didn’t live on the lane…RIP little Mo."

A third wrote: "Little Mo used to chastise me if I'd done anything wrong from the age of 12 even until she went into the home on Pelham Grove, so that's almost 60 years!

"But she was always very funny and I'd give her kiss and buy her a drink whenever I saw her sitting by the bar in the Parky or the Albert. She missed the old lane and the village feel it used to have which sadly has long gone.

"Mo was one of the 'old' lane's characters. Rest in Peace Mo and I hope you find a bar wherever you end up with a stool next to it. xx."

A fourth added: "One of the legends of Lark Lane little Mo, you could never be sad in her company. She was forever laughing and smiling.

"I can honestly I say I never saw this beautiful lady without a smile on her face. Sleep peacefully Mo sending our heavenly love and hugs, Steve and Jean."

Mo was born in a house on Bickerton Street, just off Lark Lane in Aigburth, in 1932 where she lived with her family including two brothers and two sisters. She was evacuated during the war but after returning home, she got a job with Plessey Telecommunications and worked there until she retired. Mo also worked part-time at the Masonic pub, now known as the Lodge.

The 92-year-old spent the rest of her days living just off Lark Lane in Pelham Grove Care Home, where friend Kathy said staff "treated her like one of their own from day one."

Paying tribute on the ECHO's Facebook page, Michelle Doyle said: "RIP Mo. She was a little funny lady, always had me in stitches when I lived down Lark Lane, always with a smile on her face x."

Martin Dean said: "Mo was a lovely woman and a legend down the lane RIP x."

Pauline Vass said: "Awwww God bless little Mo, such a laugh. I had many a joke with her. Hope there's a Lark Lane up there for you love xx."

Mo's funeral will be held at St Michael's in the Hamlet Church on May 15 which anyone is welcome to attend. The service will be followed by a party at the Albert, as per Mo's wishes.
